Baptisms
In Holy Baptism God promises deliverance from the forces of evil, puts our sinful self to death, give us new birth, adopts us as children, and makes us members of the body of Christ, the
church.
The church at worship celebrates God’s gift of baptism in a number of ways. The sacrament itself normally takes place in the midst of worship as a sign that in baptism we are made one whole people of God, and thus become members of the congregation. On behalf of the whole church, we promise support to our new sisters and brothers, confess the faith with them, and welcome them into the body of Christ. The ordinary elements of water and the Word of God – God’ saving promise in Jesus Christ – are the central elements of baptism.
Although a person is baptized once, the gift of baptism continues throughout a Christian’s life. Therefore, instruction in the faith is a life-long process which flows from the gift and promise
Each recipient of baptism at Calvary receives a baptismal Candle symbolizing the Light of Christ, a baptismal Faith Chest, made by the men of Calvary to store mementos of one’s journey of Christ, and a baptismal Blanket made by the women of Calvary as a reminder that in Holy Baptism, we are “clothed in Christ’s righteousness.” For the specific order of Baptism used at Calvary, read The Service of Holy Baptism.
